Nashwell Today

In November 2023, Nashwell celebrated two years since opening the doors at 1212 Avenue K, downtown Lubbock.  Owners Jonathan Blackwell and Angela Nash-Blackwell brought their eclectic creative projects together in one space, to bring Lubbock the first Art + Solar + Cowork & Bakery Cafe. Nashwell is expanding with two exciting new locations. Nashwell is opening a second cafe location in the Lobby of the Wells Fargo building, following in the footsteps of Sugar Brown’s.
Nashwell will even continue serving Sugar Brown’s coffee at this location! Nashwell co-work is also expanding with a dedicated space at 820 Main Street. Co-working is great for people working solo or growing a business, when they want to grow beyond the home office. The cafe is open Monday through Saturday, early til late. Coffee is an initial draw card, and the healthy and unique menu keeps people returning.
Aussie style sausage rolls served during lunchtime are popular, with options like pork & fennel, lamb & rosemary, and seasonal creations such as turkey & cranberry for the holiday season. Nashwell partners with other local businesses such as Canyon Valley Provisions, using their wild-crafted beef and lamb. Freshly milled flour has gained recent popularity, and N ashwell has been fortunate to partner with Revival Mill, receiving deliveries weekly.
Much of the artwork adorning the cafe walls is by Jonathan Blackwell, AKA ‘Lineaist’ (maker of lines). Some of the artwork was painted using coffee as ink, during the time Jonathan worked at Counter Culture Coffee, the brand the cafe now sells. Nashwell also hosts work by some other prominent local artists like Lahib Jaddo and Carol Flueckiger. Drop by next time you are out for First Friday Art Trail and see what’s new!

Jonathan is also the lead on the solar component, partnering with solar experts, helping make this innovative technology available. With a background in fashion design, Angela turned her hand to pastry on moving to Lubbock and finding employment when La Sirena Cocina opened. They met in Sydney while he was working on his MBA. The couple was married there, and a few years later made the move to his hometown together.

They’ve been in Lubbock since 2015 and are happy parents to a 1 year old baby boy. Family and friend connections were the driving force of basing their new business in Lubbock. The beauty and history of the old buildings downtown drew them to 1212 Avenue K. Nashwell is a unique place, contributing to the diversity of Lubbock’s downtown arts district, well worth a visit or two!

ABOUT NASHWELL

Nashwell LLC was founded in 2016 to operationalize Linebrand.com.au, an Australian web design agency, into a suite of services in Texas including Art, Work, and Bespoke, Bakery after Jonathan and Angela Nash-Blackwell were married in Sydney in 2013 moved to Texas from Australia two years later.

Art comes from Jonathan Blackwell’s background as a visual artist (Lineaist) and filmmaker (Lineaist Pictures) cataloged on the website Lineaist.com. As Managing Director he now leads Linebrand after creating Nashwell LLC where multimedia production continues on Vimeo.com/Linebrand. Since 1999 Blackwell is an alumnus of Studio Arts College International (SACI) in Florence, Italy, and in 2001 graduated from Duke University as the first Studio Art major from the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. He joins international artists with an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) in conjunction with Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) at the University of New South Wales.

Work incorporates the formation of Linebrand.us with support at their coworking space NashwellCo.work, in addition to accommodation the Blackwells maintain as Airbnb Superhosts among their suite of hospitality services. Nashwell.us/Work also includes a list of academic services like online tutoring and research, as well as order fulfillment for online retail.

Bespoke comes from Angela Blackwell’s background as a fashion designer in Sydney, Australia, trained by the Whitehouse Institute and the Accademia Italiana per Disegno di Moda in Florence, Italy. On their way from Australia to Texas, Jonathan and Angela stopped at SACI to visit the Blackwell Design Library, funded in 2010-2011 by the Blackwell family in the newly renovated Jules Maidoff Palazzo for his studio art college.

Bakery is where Angela’s commercial talents are currently engaged with the Nashwell Bespoke Bakery at NashwellBespoke.com after serving as Pastry Chef at Cocina de la Sirena since its founding in 2016. With the same approach to her pastry outfit that her fashion business shares, Angela measures to fit her customers, whether using bespoke fabrics or gluten-free and vegan ingredients.
